All the music in this programme was either extensively reworked to produce the now-familiar version (Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky), was salvaged from an abandoned work and used in a later one (Berlioz) or was simply rescued from obscurity in relatively modern times (Herschel, Haydn). Herschel, of course, "made it in the end" in a big way - but as an astronomer rather than a composer.
