By an odd coincidence our first two concerts this season feature ladies with almost identical names. Sarah-Jane Brandon is a young soprano who opens the season on October 2nd in collaboration with pianist Joseph Middleton. It's a few years since we featured a singer and Sarah-Jane's programme, ranging as it does from Handel to Satie, looks most interesting. Then, on November 27th, we welcome the well-known violist Sarah-Jane Bradley and pianist Anthony Hewitt. English music occupies the first half of the programme with Schumann and Brahms in the second half. The season would not be complete without a string quartet and the Brodowski Quartet will visit us on February 5th 2011 with a programme of Haydn, Shostakovich and Schubert. Please note that this concert will take place at Christ Church, Carr Road, Nelson. Last season there was no solo piano recital, which perhaps disappointed some people since this type of event seems to be very much enjoyed. However, solo piano music is back in the final event of the season on April 2nd 2011 when Ian Buckle will present a mainstream first half (Beethoven and Ravel) and a rather unusual second half drawn from the extensive repertoire of English piano miniatures.
